Toll-Free Numbers

Port your toll-free number to CurrentClient for calling and texting

Porting a toll-free number#

Yes, you can port your toll-free number to CurrentClient. Calling works the same as any other port and goes live as soon as the port completes. Texting is also supported, but it requires an extra approval step before you can send or receive messages.

Calling#

Calling on a toll-free number works immediately once the port completes. There's no extra setup, no waiting, no verification. It behaves exactly like any other number on CurrentClient.

Texting on a toll-free number#

Texting on toll-free numbers is supported, but it requires a separate approval called toll-free verification. This is similar to A2P registration, but it's a distinct process specific to toll-free numbers. Until verification is approved, the number can still receive texts but cannot send them.

Approval typically takes about a week. Any rejections will add to that timeline.

Do you actually need texting?#

When you submit a port request that includes a toll-free number, we'll ask whether you want texting enabled. Most of the time people say no. They only need calling, and that's it.

If you haven't been texting with this number before, skipping toll-free verification keeps things simple and gets your port wrapped up faster.

If you're already texting with this number#

If you currently use your toll-free number for texting and want to keep texting without a gap, let us know up front. There can be downtime between when the port completes and when toll-free verification is approved.

To minimize that gap, we can often submit the toll-free verification request as soon as the losing carrier approves the port and the number shows up on our side while the port is still pending. That way verification runs in parallel with the rest of the port instead of starting after it completes.

Just mention that you're already texting with the number when you submit your port request and we'll coordinate the timing.

What to expect#

1

Submit your port request

Include the toll-free number and let us know whether you want texting enabled.

2

Losing carrier approves the port

Once approved, the port gets scheduled. If you need texting and are already using it, this is when we can kick off toll-free verification in parallel.

3

Port completes

Calling is live immediately on the toll-free number.

4

Toll-free verification approved (if requested)

Texting goes live once the verification is approved. Typically about a week, longer if there are rejections.
