What is cell bridge?#
Cell bridge lets you place outbound calls through your cell phone instead of over the internet. When it's on and you start a call in CurrentClient, we call your cell phone first. You answer, press 1, and we dial your client. Your client sees your CurrentClient business number, not your personal cell.
It's built for the moments when a Wi-Fi call isn't the right tool: weak Wi-Fi, spotty data, or you'd simply rather talk over a regular phone call. You get the reliability of your cell carrier's voice network without giving up your business caller ID.
How does it work?#
Start the call in CurrentClient
Open the app and place the call like you normally would, by typing a number or selecting a contact.
Answer the call from us
Instead of connecting the call over the internet, we call your cell phone.
Press 1
When you answer, you'll hear a short prompt asking you to press 1. This confirms you're ready to talk.
Talk to your client
We dial your client and connect you. They see your business number as the caller ID, and the call happens over your regular cell connection.
From your client's side, nothing looks different. The call still shows up in your CurrentClient call history like any other call.
How do I turn it on?#
Cell bridge is a toggle, so you can flip it on for a road trip and back off when you're at your desk.
The cell bridge toggle is right on the home screen. Turn it on before you place your call.
Cell bridge calls the cell number on file for your account, so make sure it's current before you rely on it.
When should I use cell bridge?#
Turn it on when:
- You're away from reliable Wi-Fi. Driving between appointments, at a conference, or traveling. If you have cell coverage, you can call.
- Your internet is being flaky. If Wi-Fi calls have been choppy or dropping, cell bridge moves the conversation onto your carrier's voice network.
- The call really matters. For a high-stakes client conversation, some advisors prefer the predictability of a regular cell call.
Leave it off when you're at your desk with a solid connection. A direct call from the app is one tap and skips the press 1 step.
What are the trade-offs?#
What you gain:
- Call quality comes from your cell carrier, not your Wi-Fi or data connection
- Your business number stays on the caller ID
- Works anywhere your cell phone works
What to keep in mind:
- There's an extra step on every call: answer your cell and press 1
- Calls use your cell plan's minutes
- You need your cell phone with you and in coverage
- There's a short delay before your client's phone rings, since we call you first
How is this different from call forwarding?#
They're closely related. Call forwarding is a full setup where all your calls, incoming and outgoing, route through your cell phone instead of the app. Cell bridge is the situational version: you normally take calls in the app over the internet, and you flip the toggle only when you want a specific call, or a stretch of calls, to go through your cell.
If you already use call forwarding full time, your outbound calls work this way by default and you don't need cell bridge.
