What are deep links?#

A deep link is a normal web address that takes you straight to a specific screen in CurrentClient with a client's phone number already selected. Put one behind a button in your CRM, a column in a spreadsheet, or a bookmark, and a teammate is one click away from texting or calling that client. Nothing is sent and no call is placed until they press send or call.

Deep links open in your browser. If the CurrentClient desktop app is installed, the same link hands off to the desktop app automatically. There is nothing to configure and no default-app setting to depend on.

How do I open a text conversation?#

Use the new conversation link with a to parameter:

This opens the compose screen in your inbox with the number filled in as the recipient. If you already have a conversation with that number, you land in it. If not, the conversation is created when you send the first message.

A few variations:

• Pick a specific inbox. Put the inbox number in the path: https://app.currentclient.com/inbox/14155550100/m/new?to=%2B14155552671. Without it, the link opens in your default inbox.
• Start a group message. Separate numbers with commas: ?to=%2B14155552671,%2B14155550123. See Group messages for how group texting works.

How do I open the dialer with a number?#

Use the dashboard link with a tel parameter:

This opens the dialer with the number filled in, along with the matching contact if we find one. You still press the call button yourself. Read Call flow to see what happens once the call connects.

What happens if I have the desktop app?#

When you open a deep link in your browser, CurrentClient first checks whether the desktop app is running on your computer and hands the link to it. If the app is installed but not running, the browser launches it. If the app is not installed at all, the link simply opens in the browser. Either way you end up on the right screen, so the same link works for everyone on your team no matter how they use CurrentClient.

The desktop app also understands its own currentclient:// links. These only work on a computer with the desktop app installed, so use them when you know the link will never be opened anywhere else, for example inside an internal tool:

The first starts a call to the number. The second opens the same compose screen as the web link above. Any path from the web app works after currentclient://.

Do deep links work on mobile?#

Partly, and it depends on the phone.

iPhone. iOS lets you choose a default calling and texting app. Once CurrentClient is set as the default (iOS 18.2 or later, CurrentClient app 1.53.1 or later), standard tel: and sms: links open CurrentClient, and long-pressing a phone number offers "Call with CurrentClient" and "Message with CurrentClient." Set it in the iPhone Settings app under Apps, Default Apps.

There is no CurrentClient-only link on iPhone that bypasses this setting. If CurrentClient is not the default, these links open the built-in Phone and Messages apps.

Android. Deep links into the CurrentClient Android app are not supported yet.
